Drone images and video to capture the unique Great North Run site of 2021.
The 2021 Great North Run was indeed different to the 39 runs before it. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided that the run on its 40th anniversary would begin and end in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Dropzone Images were hired by the Great Run team to capture aerial images of the site covering the start line and the finish enclosure. Due to the limitations involved operating drones around crowds, we arrived on site at 5:45am to begin capturing images before the 54 thousand runners descended onto the Town Moor. We took our drone around the Charity village, across the starting area and through the many sponsors tents that were supporting GNR40.
As runners and spectators arrived, we grounded our drone and made way for the Red Arrows to pass through.
